Internship / Experiential Learning

Internship / Experiential Learning opportunities provide real world experience to students to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to begin their career. Internships are designed to allow students to combine classroom study with practical on-the-job experience. The LCCC Career Development Center oversees the internship program.

Image shows a student sitting at a table while writing and speaking with a staff member. Several majors at LCCC require internships and enable the student to earn academic credits. The student will have a site supervisor who assigns their specific tasks and evaluates their overall work. A faculty advisor works along with the site supervisor to ensure the necessary learning objectives are being met. The number of hours required to satisfy the internship requirement varies by major and can range anywhere from 150-300 hours based on the number of credits the student will receive upon completion.

Internships can be paid or unpaid. In some cases, a student may choose to do an internship even though it is not a program requirement.

The following outlines the steps a student must take to initiate the internship process:

Start the process one semester prior to the internship.
Speak with your faculty advisor to determine your eligibility and to ensure you have completed the prerequisite courses for the internship.
Contact the LCCC Internship Coordinator to schedule an appointment at 610-799-1559.
Develop a professional resume and upload it to the Cougar CLAW for review.
Apply to companies that would be a good fit based on your interests, skills, and values.
After securing the internship, enter your internship details in the Cougar CLAW for review and approval by the Internship Coordinator and the faculty advisor who will oversee your internship.

Walt Disney World College Program:

Image shows the Magic Kingdom Castle with the Disney College Program logo. Students can participate in the Walt Disney World College Program through enrollment in IDS 270: Walt Disney World Experience. This program is a combination of working, learning and living experience open to all majors. Students spend four to seven months working at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
